Even more astonishing is that once uncovered, the monolith sends a strong signal towards Saturn. Discovery sets out to find out the source of this signal. Discovery's crew is the best of the best, and they have with them the conscious supercomputer HAL 9000 to support them. But HAL's programming is a bit too similar to the human mind and he has control of every part of Discovery. If they want to go after the monolith, they have to deal with this psychotic computer.
